Using a sample of Chinese manufacturing companies (2009-2022), it finds that OR positively influences both SP and LP. R&D innovation (RD) negatively mediates OR-SP but positively mediates OR-LP, while employee turnover (ET) positively mediates OR-SP/LP (reducing ET improves performance). Artificial intelligence (AI) positively moderates OR-SP/LP relationships. Heterogeneity analysis shows OR's SP effect is stronger in larger firms and low-competition industries, while its LP effect is stronger in smaller firms and high-competition industries. The research offers a comprehensive understanding of OR's dual impact and provides practical guidance for AI-driven performance enhancement.
