In the last ten years, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)-enabled neurophysiological studies and neuroaesthetic science have confirmed that evidence-based application of art-based products creates significant health benefits. Just like interoperability technologies (eg, HL7, SNOMED, etc) have enabled clinical records like the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record, in the last 15 years we have seen science-informed art-based interven-tions achieve results in facility settings. Unlike occasional gallery visits permanent installations of art-based technology offer daily passive and active engagement, which reduces depression, wander-ing, exit-seeking and falls while increasing emotional connection, independence, way-finding, and general well-being, lowering asso-ciated burdens, staff costs and medications.
